About rubiRelief

rubiRelief was born out of the desire to provide a service to our local community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mere weeks before the virus struck the United States, we were preparing to launch rubiRides, a safe and trusted rideshare service for families with children ages 7+, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. However, as the virus greatly impacted our community, rubiRides’ launch was put on hold and rubiRelief was created out of our desire to assist others during this public health crisis.

Our Mission

rubiRelief’s mission is to assist those in need through a variety of relief initiatives in the DMV area. By engaging those in the community and aligning with like-minded organizations. rubiRelief offer safe trusted rides to essential workers, kids needing to get to and from school and extracurricular activities, and seniors in need of getting to and from medical appointments and essential places of need.  Our safe trusted vetted network of drivers will ensure that everyone gets to where they needed to go reliably and safely. Everyone deserves a safe trusted ride.

We are all in it together!

Safety & Trust

Our drivers and volunteers are trained to adhere to a high level of professionalism and customer care to provide our community with peace of mind. Our team is tested for coronavirus and trained to follow CDC guidelines to protect themselves and customers and vehicles.

Community Outreach

rubiRelief works closely with our local partnerships to help our community. We are very thankful for UTZ Quality Foods Kangaroo Auto Crew and other corporate sponsors for helping us help others.

Our First Initiative: rubiRelief Truck

As part of our movement to provide assistance in the DC metro area, our first initiative is the rubiRelief Truck. With the proceeds from selling ice cream in DC and Maryland, we will be able to provide relief initiatives in Wards 6, 7 and 8 to help those in need.

Our goal is to bring cheer and hope to others during these difficult times, our relief truck will visit essential workers, those with special needs and senior communities.

How it Works:

  • rubiTreats: Our relief initiative is made possible through donations and ice cream sales throughout Maryland from 4pm – 8pm. Learn more about how you can contribute through donations, food or volunteering.
  • Distribution: Between 11am – 2pm, we will send our rubiRelief Truck to drop-off points in Wards 6, 7, and 8 to deliver relief snacks & ice-cream to those in need
  • If you would like our ice cream truck to come by your neighborhood or your school, email us at info@rubirelief.org or contact us on social media.

Social Distancing Measures

We will provide all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to the volunteers who will manage the rubiRelief Truck.

Our volunteers will work together to adhere to social distancing and CDC guidelines.

Please note: We will not be able to serve anyone who isn’t wearing a mask.

Melissa Siegel

Secretary

Melissa grew up in Tucson, Arizona. As a young person, she learned the value of volunteering. In the 6th grade, her teacher asked her to help with a new class devoted to teaching children with special needs. She loved it so much she spent the rest of the year assisting them. This experience sparked what will be a lifetime dedicated to service and volunteering. At 17 she spent part of her summer in Nicaragua with Amigos De Las Americas teaching people how to brush their teeth, building latrines and giving immunizations for measles, polio, tetanus and DPT. After attending college in Tucson and studying Broadcasting, she became a news reporter for a local station. After a few years her focus changed from being on the air to helping businesses market to the community by selling and writing commercials. This started her journey across the country working for stations in Tucson, San Francisco, and Minneapolis. She married and raised a daughter, Emily, who is now 29. All the while continuing her dedication to service as a volunteer for many years sitting on several boards and helping raise money for nonprofit organizations. Some of the organizations she has worked with are:
